Project Lead

NQE was engaged by Port of Townsville to design and certify a heavy vehicle bridge for use on one of its berths.

The bridge was required to facilitate access of up to 30 tonne mobile cranes between mooring platforms. The client also specified that the bridge must be able to be pick-and-carried by their 20 tonne Franna crane. NQE consulted the OEM load chart and ensured that the overall dimensions and weight of the heavy vehicle bridge would allow it to be safely transported into place as required. NQE also produced shop detailed drawings, allowing Port of Townsville boilermakers to fabricate the bridge in-house.

Design features include:

  • Bolted connections for all steel members to reduce fabrication time
  • Tyre-skid plate to prevent damage from vehicle collision
  • Under deck girders placed directly below crane wheel centrelines
  • RPEQ Certified compliance with AS 4100
